The
Brumby Government is repairing the damage done to Victoria’s Health
system. We have increased recurrent funding to hospitals by 83% -
$2.9 billion since 1999. We are admitting 300,000 more
patients to hospitals this year than in 1999 and elective
surgery waiting lists have been reduced by about 10% since we came
to office.
We have
employed 7,264 extra Nurses across the state. In local Hospitals

We are
continuing to invest in hospitals and health services that serve
the Melbourne community. This includes:
Melbourne
- Constructed a new
building at The Royal Melbourne Hospital housing 180 beds plus a
22-bed Intensive Care Unit, as well as new trauma centre and
helipad – $60 million
- Works
to enable construction of The Royal Women’s Hospital adjacent to
The Royal Melbourne – $42 million
- Upgrade energy
infrastructure – $22 million
- Redevelopment of Royal
Melbourne Hospital Emergency Department - $56.3 million
Royal Children’s Hospital
- A
brand new Royal Children’s Hospital due for completion
by 2011 – $850 million
- New
Royal Children’s Hospital Cancer Centre – $23 million (State Gov.
contribution of $7.3 million)
