Bronwyn Pike MPBronwyn Pike is the Minister for Education, Skills and Workforce Participation in Australia's second most populous State, Victoria. Victoria's government education system comprises half a million students enrolled in almost 1600 government schools, with more than 40,000 teaching staff.

Prior to entering Parliament, Ms Pike worked as a secondary and tertiary teacher, a community services manager and as the Director of the Unit of Justice and Social Responsibility in the Uniting Church. She is also a former Board Director of Greenpeace Australia. Ms Pike brings to the Parliament a long history of advocating for social change, equality and the disadvantaged. For many years, Ms Pike has also been an active participant in human rights, peace and social justice campaigns. Ms Pike recognises that a child's learning starts in early childhood and that we must establish the foundations for life long learning, so that people have the capacity to participate in and contribute to society throughout their lives.

Immediately upon first entering Parliament in 1999, Ms Pike became the Minister for Housing and Aged Care and the Minister Assisting the Minister for Health. She was appointed Minister for Community Services and Minister Assisting Premier on Community Building in 2002. Following the re-election of the Labor Government in late 2002, Ms Pike became the Minister for Health. The Labor Government was returned for a third term at the 2006 election where Ms Pike continued as the Health Minister until being appointed the Minister for Education in August 2007.

Ms Pike is spearheading the $1.9 billion Victorian Schools Plan to rebuild and modernise 500 Victorian schools over this four year term of government. This includes upgrades to technology wings; re-equipping science classrooms; and building new schools in growth corridors. The Government has committed that every Victorian government school will have been rebuilt or modernised within 10 years, delivering the biggest ever school building program in Victoria's history. 

In addition to school planning and capital works, Ms Pike's Ministerial responsibilities include school policy and funding, student learning and curriculum and school performance and quality assurance. She is also responsible for student support services and student transport.

In May 2007, Ms Pike became the longest serving female minister in Victoria's history.

Bronwyn brings to the Parliament a long history of advocating for social change, equality and the disadvantaged. For many years she has been a supporter of EMILY's List and an active participant in human rights, peace and social justice campaigns. She is also an avid Royal Park dog walker.
