SKILLS PLEDGE FOR ZOO AS STAFF PREPARE TO SHINE
Talented Zoos Victoria staff will soon learn even more thanks to $758,000 in Brumby Labor Government funding for 12 workplace training projects.
Speaking at Melbourne Zoo, Skills and Workforce Participation Minister Bronwyn Pike congratulated Zoos Victoria on signing the Victorian Skills Pledge, which aims to encourage businesses to develop the skills of their employees through training.
“Staff at Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary will benefit from one of the 12 training projects,” Ms Pike said.
“Zoos Victoria employees already do an incredible job looking after animals, but the Brumby Labor Government will provide more training so zoo staff can further specialise in conservation and sustainability skills.
“In addition to the extra training of zoo staff, other placements will be spread across a range of sectors including construction, information and communication technology, facilities management, health and energy.
“So whether you look after baby elephants at the zoo, or are a woman working in the plumbing industry, there is training placement to help you further your career.
“I’m thrilled Zoos Victoria has joined the growing number of organisations to sign the Victorian Skills Pledge.
“This is part of the Brumby Labor Government’s commitment to investing in the skills of Victorians, so they can get the job they want.”
Ms Pike said the 12 training projects will create 853 new training placements across Victoria and will be delivered by Victorian Industry Training Advisory Bodies (ITABs) in partnership with businesses and training providers.
“The projects are about encouraging and supporting employers to identify and develop new skills and career paths to tackle skills shortages in their industry sectors,” she said.
“Through the Victorian Government’s Securing Jobs for Your Future – Skills for Victoria package, we have committed $4 million to strengthen the role of ITABs in their relevant industry sectors.”
Businesses who sign the Victorian Skills Pledge receive a certificate from the Government and are acknowledged on a register as an organisation committed to developing the skills of their staff.
