FLEMINGTON FOYER FLYING HIGH
A new foyer for the Debney Park public housing estate will give tenants a safe and colourful entrance to their homes.
Member for Melbourne Bronwyn Pike, representing Housing Minister Richard Wynne, joined residents and members of Moonee Valley City Council to officially open the new foyer off Racecourse Road today.
“I’m very happy to be here today to announce the opening of this newly upgraded foyer,” Ms Pike said.
“What we see here today is a major improvement – the place has really undergone a transformation.
“We know our surroundings, especially our homes, can make a big difference to the way we feel and attractive, well designed, people friendly places – like this new foyer – can have a positive impact on our daily lives.”
The upgrade and landscaping works were completed in February this year for a total cost of $1.7 million.
Features of the new foyer include;
- A new entry canopy, plus a seating and waiting area for residents and visitors,
- A new security system including controlled access, intercoms and surveillance cameras,
- Landscaping,
- A new court-yard and
- New facilities for cleaners and security staff, including toilets, showers, storage and a lunchroom
“It’s an exciting time for Flemington,” Ms. Pike said.
“In September last year we launched the Flemington Neighbourhood Renewal project, a major investment in the future of the estate and resident’s lives with more than $1.4 million to be invested over four years.
“Work under Neighbourhood Renewal includes a revamp of the community garden and community centre at 120 Racecourse Road as well as an upgrade of flats at 126 Racecourse Road and 12 Holland Court.
“Debney Park estate is home to a rich mix of cultures and households and I look forward to watching the local community here flourish and prosper in the years to come.”
